Since it’s wedding season and all, here is a post about some Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumis I made for a friend when he got married. He’s also a huge Star Wars fan like my big brother, and he had been eyeing and begging for an R2D2 amigurumi from me for the longest time…but since this was a gift for getting married, a single R2D2 just didn’t seem to fit the occasion! So after thinking long and hard about what romantic, cute things there are in Star Wars, I came up with wookie wedding amigurumis!

Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumi 1

Why wookies? Because they look so fuzzy and cute! Closest thing to a teddy bear, besides an ewok, and I skipped on ewok because they look TOO much like a teddy bear. You probably wouldn’t even know I was trying to make an ewok unless I included its iconic hoodie and feathers/tribal wear, which just didn’t strike me as something fit for a wedding.

Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumi 2

Maybe the trickiest thing about wookie wedding amigurumis is…what does a female wookie look like?! Have you ever seen one?? Me neither…oh well, I tried my best by embellishing her with a nice sparkly veil that’s as shiny as all the stars in a galaxy! Isn’t she stunning??

Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumi 3

Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumi 4

To make the groom look extra sharp, I gave him a nice bowtie and dress shirt, which draped gracefully over his usual bullet sash.

Check out the warm, romantic ambiance created by string lights in the background! So lovey dovey!

Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumi 5

Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumi 6

So what did my friend think of these Star Wars Wookie Wedding Amigurumis? Let me sum it up with the dialog below:

Friend: “Oh thanks! These are so cute!”

Me: “Yay, so glad you like them! You know what they are, right?”

Friend: “Yeah, they’re teddy bears.”

Me: “…”

Sigh, sometimes you can’t win haha.

After making C3PO amigurumi, I decided it was only natural to move on to another one of R2D2 and C3PO’s friends…Chewbacca (aka Chewie)! And I had recently experimented with combing out this very fuzzy, furry yarn called Sensations Beautiful Yarn from Jo-Ann’s, to give the illusion of soft fur when I was making a maltipoo puppy amigurumi (don’t worry, post about that creation will come soon!), so I was excited to put that technique to the test on Chewie too!

Chewbacca-amigurumi-4

Warning: the lighting of these pictures for Chewie were not ideal…unfortunately we didn’t have much time to do a proper glamour shoot of Chewie at his best, since it was made as a gift for my brother, the Star Wars fanatic/website manager that inspired us to make Star Wars amigurumi, and we had to give him away before we could schedule the makeup artist and hairstylist…haha jk =P. I went off of my rabbit amigurumi pattern again (I love that pattern, it has a great body proportion for all the cute things I like to create…and I swear I’m not just saying that cus I’m totally biased…hopefully you’ll believe me on this haha!), and used the Beautiful Sensations yarn instead of worsted weight yarn. Then I combed out the yarn on Chewie’s head until hairs started coming out, and used my fingers to sculpt his beautiful locks of hair, just like how it looks in the movies.

Chewbacca-amigurumi-8

We created his belt? or purse strap? from strips of black felt and snippets of silver wired ribbon (yes, the exact same one we used for R2D2). That was a lot of tiny snippets…

Chewbacca-amigurumi-6

And then I ran to my sewing laser-precise felt-cutting sister and asked her to help me with sewing a small pouch out of beige felt for Chewie. Who knew Chewie had such fancy taste in purses…this is fancier than what I can get from Coach!

Chewbacca-amigurumi-5

Of course, I had to add my pink cheekies! I guess the makeup artist and hairstylist did make it on time after all…

Chewbacca-amigurumi-1

Yay! What a great group of friends! Bigfoot/yeti, nerdy robot, pro-wrestling champ…the best combo of BFFs ever.

Chewbacca-amigurumi-3

Is it just me, or does R2D2 have this look of fear in his beady little safety eye that says, “It’s getting awfully crowded in here! No more Star Wars amigurumi friends please, I don’t even have space to roll anymore!”

Thanks for looking!!

After waiting patiently for six years (whoa…has it really been six years since I started, that’s scary…), my R2D2 amigurumi finally has his BFF of all time to keep him company, a C3PO amigurumi!!

C-3P0-amigurumi-1

So why did it take me six years?? I guess at the time I made R2D2, I thought the only way for me to make a CP3O would be to make him as realistic looking as possible, and that would be way beyond my skills set as an amateur crocheter! Even now, I don’t think it’s possible for me to make a realistic version of C3PO, like some other super accurate versions I’ve seen of him on the web. So, I resorted to making a much more simplified version of him.

C-3P0-amigurumi-5

I used the same pattern I came up with for the rabbit amigurumi to use as a base for the body shape of C3PO (so yeah, if you’ve previously purchased the rabbit amigurumi pattern you could totally modify it to make C3PO too!). All I did differently was give him some extra wires around the waist area, and crocheted a long chain to wrap around his head as a ridge. The wires were just yarn of different colors that I strung through over and over…if there were anything I wish I could redo about this C3PO, it would be these wires! I think I got just a tad carried away with all of them…

C-3P0-amigurumi-4

And of course, we can’t forget about the trimmings! For his eyes, I used an old ribbon that happened to have the same stripey pattern as C3PO’s shiny eyes. You can even see the pen tracing around his right eye (hehe oops, execution error), for the circle I outlined from the strip of ribbon I used. Then I used some gold-colored gems to line his waist and belly, to give it some extra shine! I also dotted his ears with a few gems to give it some more dimension. It kind of looks like he has earrings too…

C-3P0-amigurumi-6

I finished him off with a small rectangle mouth cut out of felt, and some pink cheekies! I just can’t resist not putting pink cheeks on my amigurumis. I know, there’s no way C3PO can blush, but somehow it just makes him a little more human-like and endearing to me.

C-3P0-amigurumi-9

Here he is with R2D2 by his side (Artoo’s pattern is available here)! It was quite amusing after I finished C3PO. I think I finally understood why the Ewoks worshipped C3PO as a god…it’s because he’s one of the shiniest amigurumis ever!! Look at all that bling on his belly.

C-3P0-amigurumi-7

Hope you’ve all enjoyed my version of C3PO as an amigurumi! Thanks for looking!

So, when I say friend of R2D2, who comes to mind? C3PO? Luke Skywalker? …Yoda?? No – wrong, wrong, wrong! The obvious answer should be:

R5D4, of course!!

This brilliant idea wasn’t mine actually…it was a custom order! I would never have thought of making R5D4, but he definitely makes the cutest counterpart for R2D2!

Making him was pretty difficult. I had to start over so many times to get the head shape right. I even made an extra body using an off-white colored yarn, because for some funny reason, I thought R5D4 was an off-white color…but actually he’s white. It only looked off-white because of the reflection of the sand on his body. Ha ha ha…I should have looked at him more carefully before I started darnit….

AND…R5D4 is so much fancier than R2D2!! Look at all his fancy embellishments! Those decked out disco-light neck squares, 3 eyeballs instead of 2 (and a glassy crystal eyeball too!), fancy rectangles on his body, and 4 different colors instead of 2 ooooh so special! When I finished and compared him to R2D2, I almost felt sorry for R2D2 because he looked so empty and, well, naked all of a sudden! Maybe we got a little carried away with our decorations on R5D4. Oh well, it’s ok R2D2, you’re still our favorite! :)

Unfortunately, I didn’t write anything down so there’s no pattern, in case anyone’s wondering. He was too hard to construct, and making a pattern with nice pictures and step-by-step instructions just seems too daunting for me! Perhaps in the future when I have more time…

That’s all for now! Went through quite a dry spell of not posting for a while, but I’ll be making more posts soon, so please visit again!

Twin Artoos!

And no, you are not seeing wrong. Indeed, one Artoo is bigger than the other. Let’s just say one is more “fit” for survival than the other in the womb.

Then, my dad asked me to make one for his co-worker’s son, so I cloned him again. Now, for the time being, I have 3 Artoos! And for some funny reason, Artoo 003 got even BIGGER! It’s ok, the bigger the better.

I must admit, it is kinda scary seeing so many Artoos. It’s like having an army of Artoos, except they’re made of yarn and their main weapon is their cuteness. Don’t worry, worse comes to worse, just throw ’em at your enemies! That’ll catch them off guard for sure!

Tea party with Artoo anyone?

Here’s a dramatic shot!

What have I learned after making THREE Artoos? Just because you’ve made it “n” amount of times doesn’t guarantee you’ll get the same exact thing each time. I would say I like the later 2 Artoos better, because my techniques got better. Although my brother said he likes the original the best still. To each their own, I suppose!
