<div id="attachment_963" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-3.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="wp-image-963 size-medium" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-3-600x803.jpg" alt="smart-monkey-amigurumi-3" width="600" height="803" srcset="https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-3-600x803.jpg 600w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-3-764x1024.jpg 764w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-3-325x435.jpg 325w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-3-650x870.jpg 650w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-3.jpg 1936w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">smart-monkey-amigurumi-3</p></div>
<p>So what makes this smart monkey amigurumi smart?  You guessed it, the glasses!  My amazing felt-cutter sister spent a long time cutting out these frames.  I think she cut out at least 3 different versions of these frames.  Some were more symmetrical than others, and the pair glued to this smart monkey amigurumi&#8217;s face just so happened to be the most symmetrical pair that fit the best on its face.  We were starting to feel like stylists, picking out which set of frames suited our smart monkey amigurumi&#8217;s face the best!  Doesn&#8217;t that just sound so silly&#8230;because it is!!</p>
<div id="attachment_964" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-1.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-964 size-medium" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-1-600x803.jpg" alt="smart-monkey-amigurumi-1" width="600" height="803" srcset="https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-1-600x803.jpg 600w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-1-764x1024.jpg 764w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-1-325x435.jpg 325w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-1-650x870.jpg 650w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-1.jpg 1936w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">smart-monkey-amigurumi-1</p></div>
<p>What exactly inspired the idea of a smart monkey amigurumi?  Well, it was my manager&#8217;s birthday coming up, and he&#8217;s been a big supporter of my hobby since I started working there about a year ago.  He once joked that it would be neat if I made a monkey amigurumi version of him.  Of course I thought, &#8220;What an ingenious idea!  I should make one for his birthday.&#8221;  I actually haven&#8217;t tried making a customized amigurumi according to a real person.  Just the thought of doing something like that seemed like a lot of fun.</p>
<div id="attachment_965" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-2.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-965 size-medium" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-2-600x803.jpg" alt="smart-monkey-amigurumi-2" width="600" height="803" srcset="https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-2-600x803.jpg 600w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-2-764x1024.jpg 764w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-2-325x435.jpg 325w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-2-650x870.jpg 650w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-2.jpg 1936w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">smart-monkey-amigurumi-2</p></div>
<p>So since my manager&#8217;s favorite color is green, my sister cut out a nice green vest for the monkey.  She also added a black tie to give the smart monkey amigurumi a &#8220;sharp&#8221; and &#8220;handsome&#8221; look.  And to top it all off, I added a little felt kindle, and glued it to the smart monkey amigurumi&#8217;s hand.  My manager is known to walk around reading things from his kindle, so it was definitely a necessary accessory for this smart monkey amigurumi to have!  And of course, we can&#8217;t forget the pink cheekies to give it that cute look!</p>
<div id="attachment_966" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-6.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-966 size-medium" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-6-600x450.jpg" alt="smart-monkey-amigurumi-6" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-6-600x450.jpg 600w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-6-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-6-325x243.jpg 325w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-6-650x487.jpg 650w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">smart-monkey-amigurumi-6</p></div>
<p>Here is the smart monkey amigurumi posing next to my manager&#8217;s watermelon birthday cake.  My coworkers actually cut out and assembled that cake themselves, so professional!  One would have thought they ordered it from Edible Arrangements.  Such talented people on my team!</p>
<div id="attachment_967" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-7.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-967 size-medium" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-7-600x800.jpg" alt="smart-monkey-amigurumi-7" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-7-600x800.jpg 600w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-7-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-7-325x433.jpg 325w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-7-650x866.jpg 650w, https://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/smart-monkey-amigurumi-7.jpg 1944w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">smart-monkey-amigurumi-7</p></div>
<p>So, final verdict, does the smart monkey amigurumi resemble my manager accurately?!  I think so!  It was a lot of fun putting this one together.  Making amigurumi caricatures of real people you know is actually a lot of fun.  I would highly recommend doing amigurumi caricatures to anyone!! XD  Thanks for looking!  And happy birthday to Samigurumi! ;D</p>

<p>After crocheting my beloved boba, I’m on a drinks rampage now!&#160; I just feel like crocheting a bunch of drinks!</p>
<p>This whole rampage was spurred by coming back from In n Out milkshake-less, and regretting it!&#160; Something about sweet icy beverages makes them absolutely irresistible, right?&#160; So after making boba, I HAD to move on to a strawberry milkshake…with a strawberry on top too, please!</p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7830.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border-right: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-bottom: 0px" height="480" alt="IMG_7830" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7830_thumb.jpg" width="360" border="0" /></a> </p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7834.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border-right: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-bottom: 0px" height="278" alt="IMG_7834" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7834_thumb.jpg" width="370" border="0" /></a> </p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7840.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border-right: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-bottom: 0px" height="278" alt="IMG_7840" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7840_thumb.jpg" width="370" border="0" /></a> </p>
<p>I like the last picture.&#160; The colors are so nice!&#160; That’s what happened when I used a hot pink colored background against the light of the setting sun.&#160; </p>
<p>You can find the pattern for the strawberry milkshake on my <a href="http://janama.etsy.com" target="_blank">etsy</a>.</p>
<p>And of course, a strawberry milkshake just isn’t complete without a chocolate companion!</p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7861.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border-right: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-bottom: 0px" height="480" alt="IMG_7861" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7861_thumb.jpg" width="360" border="0" /></a> </p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7865.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border-right: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-bottom: 0px" height="278" alt="IMG_7865" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7865_thumb.jpg" width="370" border="0" /></a> </p>
<p>Chocolate milkshake got to have a more dramatic look!</p>
<p>Now, both of them together!</p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7866.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border-right: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-bottom: 0px" height="278" alt="IMG_7866" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7866_thumb.jpg" width="370" border="0" /></a> </p>
<p>Chocolate vs. Strawberry.&#160; Who’s gonna win?!</p>
<p>BOBA WINS!!</p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7868.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border-right: 0px;border-top: 0px;border-left: 0px;border-bottom: 0px" height="480" alt="IMG_7868" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7868_thumb.jpg" width="360" border="0" /></a></p>

<p>…so of course I couldn’t resist making an amigurumi of one! It was a super easygoing project that didn’t require much thinking. Getting the cup part to be the right shape was a little tedious, but it turned out well. What I liked most about this was the straw. Boba straws are so fat, so it was possible to make a life-size straw (unlike the neck of the martini glass Brian Griffin holds)!</p>
<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7828.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border: 0px none;" title="boba amigurumi" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_7828_thumb.jpg" alt="boba amigurumi" width="360" height="480" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>You can find the pattern for it at my <a href="http://janama.etsy.com" target="_blank">etsy</a>.</p>
<p>My sister is a major boba fanatic – much more so than I am. When I finished making it she was ecstatic! Yet, as it sat around for a few more days, staring at her every time she walked by, tricking her more than thrice that it was the real thing, and constantly reminding her of her boba craving…she went crazy!! Now she resorts to holding it like she would a real boba cup and slurp invisible boba out of the straw. Maybe she’s hinting that I go buy her the real thing…I guess she deserves one, especially because she helped me cut out the felt pieces and arrange them. Noo…guilt tripping myself! Ok, off to the boba store!!</p>

<p><a href="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/IMG_7234.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="border: 0px;" src="http://cuteamigurumi.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/IMG_7234_thumb.jpg" alt="IMG_7234" width="390" height="298" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>What about this??</p>
<p>The answers better be CAKES!! not HATS!!! So, these were some things I crocheted out of stringy thready stuff. They’re supposed to be cakes, but most everyone I’ve shown it to thinks they’re hats! The final count: 1/9 correctly identified these objects as cakes. Isn’t that sad?? Is it really that bad…</p>
<p>I made more, but haven’t found the time to take pictures of them. When I get around to it, I’ll post more. In the meantime, are there any suggestions I can do to make them more cake-like? I need them to be unmistakable!! No more “I thought it was a hat” business!</p>
<p>Each one is about 1 inch in diameter, and 3/4 inch tall. I even stuffed it with polyfil, so they’re nice and squishy! I used the smallest crochet hook possible – no idea what size that is…and some weird stringy thready thing that I don’t know what it’s called. Sigh, such is my amateur knowledge, I apologize. Most of the decorations are made of felt and random craft trimmings I found lying around my mom’s craft stash. The fruits I meticulously made out of cutting microscopic pieces of felt, gluing them together, and then sewing on lines. Lots of work for the fruit, but I think it’s worth it.</p>
